Fuel emissions aren’t just created by driving vehicles. Fuel can also evaporate from storage tanks and from truck vents during loading, causing emissions, as well as loss of fuel.
What We Did
We use hydrocarbon-capture infrastructure known as a floating roof to prevent fuel vaporisation. Over 99% of all our tanks that handle gasoline come with internal or external floating roofs. In Puerto Rico, this is particularly important, where air temperatures are high and so the risk of vaporisation is increased.
At our facilities in Puerto Rico, Estonia, UK and Tanzania, we have also installed state-of-the-art vapour recycling systems. These systems are designed to recover any vapour released from truck vents, convert it back into liquid, then recycle it into the facility.
As a result of our vapour recycling efforts, we’ve been able to minimise losses to product, and also prevent any harmful gases from escaping into the open air.
